Safety & SAfeSport

USRowing’s olympic Development program

safety is our top

As the national governing body for the sport of rowing, we take our safety protocols very seriously.  Every person employed by USRowing has gone through rigorous training from water safety and CPR courses, to SafeSport training, which ensures protocols are strictly observed concerning  what is and what is not appropriate behavior USRowing’s Covid protocols are religiously enforced, and carefully monitored and observed; we maintain a strict “bubble” for all athletes, coaches and visitors.

Coaching and Support Staff

All coaches on staff are required to have a First Aid/CPR certification, SafeSport training, Boater Safety education, and a detailed background check.  All of our coaches are USRowing Level II certified and many of them have completed USRowing Level III certification – the highest level certification available for coaches in the United States. The staff has a plethora of coaching experience, all the way from the introductory youth levels through high performance international rowing.

Athlete Medical Care

The Bolles School has an athletic trainer and nurse(s) on campus. There are urgent care centers and hospitals within 10 minutes of each of the rowing sites and dormitories. The nearest urgent care center is 4 miles away, and a large hospital complex is 7 miles away.

Covid-19 Protocols

The ODP staff is regularly monitoring the most recent guidance and information regarding Covid-19 at the local and national levels. As camp approached, current public health policies changed, we adjusted our protocols. A detailed ODP Health and Safety Plan was shared with athletes before camp. Elements of this plan included coronavirus testing, zoning of participants and coaches, rigorous cleaning and disinfection protocols, and appropriate masking requirements. Protocols were developed in accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control, USRowing, and relevant public health authorities, as well as various campus requirements. Our protocols cover the following areas:

  • Cleaning, Disinfection, and Sanitization
  • Social Distancing
  • Personal Protective Equipment
  • Daily Self Screening
  • Shared Objects
  • Ventilation
  • Modified Layouts

Also, due to the access of vaccines that included a broader population, most staff and campers are now fully vaccinated. Click here for our latest Verson2 Covid Protocols
